Choosing the Right Classes for College Admissions
Make Sure Your Transcript Tells the Right Story in 2025 and Beyond
📚 Colleges Look at More Than GPA
When admissions officers read your application, they look beyond the number. They ask:
Did this student challenge themselves with available courses?
Is there a clear academic progression?
Do their classes match their intended major?
Are they ready for college-level work?
The truth? Not all A’s are equal.
Smart class choices—especially from 10th to 12th grade—can make or break your admissions and merit aid potential.
What Classes Do Colleges Want to See?
✅ Core Subjects Matter Most:
English – 4 years
Math – At least through Algebra II, preferably Pre-Calc or higher
Science – 3+ years (including bio, chem, and ideally physics)
Social Studies – 3+ years (U.S. History, Gov/Econ)
Foreign Language – 2+ years of the same language (3+ recommended for top colleges)
✅ Rigor Counts:
Honors = shows initiative
AP/IB = shows college readiness
Dual Enrollment = earns real credit (and proves you're ready)
🔍 Should I Take AP, Dual Enrollment, or Honors?
AP is great for College Bound Sophomores and Juniors. Boosts your GPA, even if the exam score is not good.
Honors is great for 9th-10th grade classes and niche interests.
Dual Enrollment is great for Jr, and Sr year. It give you real life experience at college life. It gives you great experience with college structure. Give you real college credit which should reduce your college cost.
